Abby Rose, Early Childhood Program Manager, CATCH Global Foundation
Thursday, April 23 • 7:45 AM

Many children come to preschool or even kindergarten with no structured school experience outside of the home let alone physical education. This transition to a formal educational environment can be challenging for students as well for the PE teachers who are hoping to give them that important start towards developing physical literacy and a lifetime of physical activity. This session will provide some real world strategies for engaging young children in PE class.

The Whole Child (WSCC) framework underscores the connection between health education and social-emotional learning (SEL) and the need for a coordinated approach when teaching skills-based health education. Using the CATCH My Breath (CMB) Youth E-cigarette/JUUL Prevention Program as an example, this session will describe strategies for incorporating core SEL competencies into relevant, standards-based health education programs. Learn about the impact CMB is having on increasing students’ knowledge, motivation, and social skills to abstain from e-cigarettes.
