Sussex Youths Take Lead in Battle Against Obesity
by Ron MacArthur Sussex County is setting the pace in the battle against childhood obesity, and health officials say local children could one day be the healthiest in the nation. The obesity rate is rising in Delaware and across the nation, but the rate has dropped 2.3 percent in Sussex, said John Hollis, director of community relations for Nemours Health and Prevention Services. What prompted you to be an advocate and champion of children’s health? The YMCA of Delaware is part of the Activate America Community. CATCH was presented in Washington, DC in 2004. Our President, Mike Graves, and key fitness directors saw the potential and the impact that the YMCA of Delaware could have on the children in Delaware.
