E-cigarette use has increased rapidly in recent years to become the most commonly used tobacco product by middle and high school students. To address this emerging public health crisis, researchers at the University of Texas School of Public Health have developed CATCH My Breath (CMB), an e-cigarette prevention program for middle school students. The 6-lesson curriculum uses peer facilitators to guide activities that increase students’ knowledge and motivations to abstain from e-cigarettes and build skills for resisting peer and media influences. The program also includes teacher education, online resources, and parent materials. During a 26- school pilot study, including 5 schools in Arkansas, 86% of students agreed that they were less likely to use e-cigarettes as a result of CMB. During this interactive session, participants will learn about the experiences of the Arkansas pilot schools and develop an action plan for implementing e-cigarette prevention with their own students.
